In light of the current crisis with Covid 19, the Irish Embassy in Australia recommends Irish citizens seeking to return to Ireland should stay in touch with the embassy by registering with the Citizens Register. This is important for Irish citizens working and travelling in Australia so that the embassy knows you are here. You can register here: https://citizensregistration.dfa.ie/
